What Raises Blood Glucose Levels

What Raises Blood Glucose Levels

Blood sugar levels need to be controlled in the lives of diabetic and non-diabetic people because uncontrolled blood sugar levels give way to poor nutrition, unbalanced hormones, susceptibility to disease and life-threatening conditions such as diabetic coma.

Different Cereals

Foods on the Glycemic index are a good indicator of what can make blood sugar levels rise. The Glycemic index is a list of researched foods that tell the consumer how much natural and processed sugar each food contains.

Good Old-Fashioned Oatmeal & Different Cereals

The best choice for breakfast is to avoid most processed cereals and stick with old-fashioned oatmeal, if you want to maintain even daily levels of blood sugar. Most brands of bran flakes cause blood sugar levels to spike.

Dates & Watermelon

Be careful when eating dates and watermelon. They are good, natural sources of sweetness, but they pack a sugar rise upon consumption. You should eat these when blood sugar is very low, not high.

Fast Food & Tofu

Fast food french fries and sweet potatoes facilitate high blood sugar levels. Tofu is healthy for you but when it is sweetened, it makes your blood sugar levels rise. Like naturally sweet fruit, only consume it if you need a sugar boost.

Emotions

Even though they are not a food, emotions can also trigger high blood sugar levels in a person, especially a diabetic. Relaxation and meditation are good practices of restoring homeostasis in the blood.
