Pink Grapefruit Diet

Pink Grapefruit Diet

The weight loss industry is naturally filled with any number of fads and gimmicks, with some being outright unsafe and some being good ideas carried to extremes. The "grapefruit diet" is one of the lattera diet containing copious amounts of grapefruit under the premise that it somehow helps to burn additional fat. While there is no scientific evidence that grapefruit can burn fat on its own, the inclusion of grapefruit into an otherwise healthy diet can help you lose weight due to its low calorie content and nominal impact on blood sugar levels.

Pink Grapefruit Diet

Consuming a diet consisting of plenty of fruits, vegetables and lean protein, in conjunction with plenty of pink grapefruit, can help you to drop a few extra pounds. The primary advantage to pink grapefruit is that it is a fairly low calorie "filler" food, helping to keep your hunger pangs down while keeping your overall caloric intake low. A large pink grapefruit contains about 80 g of vitamin C and only 53 calories, making it a fairly decent dieting fruit. Additionally, grapefruit has a glycemic index score of only 25, one of the lowest of all fruits. This means that grapefruit is a safe fruit for both healthy individuals and individuals affected with blood sugar problems like diabetes. Consume grapefruit once or twice a day while following this diet. You will want to enhance your grapefruit each day with the inclusion of other fruits and vegetables, as well as a moderate source of protein with each mealdairy, poultry, seafood or low-fat meat.

Finding and Storing Quality Grapefruit

Selecting high-quality grapefruits at the store will help to maximize your enjoyment while on this diet. Avoid grapefruits with apparent physical abnormalities, such as discolorations (brown or other off-color areas) and abnormally soft spots on the skin of the fruit. Select a grapefruit that is visually appealingthe fruit should have a glossy appearance and should be perfectly round, or at least close to it. Finally, only select pink grapefruits that are heavy for their size, as the heavier fruit will contain more juice. To ascertain this, simply hold a pair of comparably sized grapefruits, choosing the one that feels heavier. Another equally viable method is to use the fruit scale at the score to determine which grapefruit will provide you with the most bang for your buck. Grapefruits can be stored at room temperature for a period of up to one week. Refrigerated grapefruits can often retain their freshness for up to eight weeks.

Sample Menu

For breakfast, consume two or three scrambled eggs, half a grapefruit, and a bowl of whole grain cereal (oatmeal, cream of wheat, or another alternative). Slice bananas or another fruit into your cereal for added vitamins and nutrients, and finish the meal off with a large glass of milk for added protein. For lunch, eat the other half of the grapefruit along with a healthy meal containing whole wheat pasta mixed with chicken or low-fat beef topped with a low-sugar tomato sauce. Serve that with a bowl of mixed vegetables on the side. For dinner, eat a sensible meal containing fresh sliced turkey, a sweet potato, broccoli or green beans, and a large garden salad with low-calorie dressing.
