How to Make a Thank You Card for a Teacher

How to Make a Thank You Card for a Teacher

A good teacher dedicates a lot of time to her students. One way an individual student -- or an entire class -- can show appreciation is to make a thank-you card for a teacher. Such a gift does not have to be fancy or expensive. You can make a perfectly good thank-you card for teachers for free using common materials or templates that are available online.

Instructions

    1

Determine who is giving the thank-you card. If the card is in response to something done just for your child, it should be from the child and possibly the parents. For example, you may want to send a thank-you card to a teacher for tutoring your child privately prior to a test. In this case, the child can make the thank-you card herself or with the parents.

On the other hand, if the teacher has helped an entire class or part of a class, the thank-you card should be from all the students who benefited from her help.

    2

Choose a thank-you card design. It does not have to be the traditional greeting card format. You can get creative and create a card that is actually a teacher's gift. For example, you can create a card in the shape of a bookmark that the teacher can then use in or outside the classroom. Alternately, you can create a card in the shape of an apple. If you want to be more elaborate, you can create a calendar for a teacher or a memo pad in which the first page or cover is the thank-you card.

    3

Do artwork by hand. Even if it is not perfect, most teachers will appreciate a card made up of pictures and designs the student made by hand, rather than a card that is just computer-generated. Teachers like to see that students put in an effort, so show that your card is something you worked on and not just something ready-made.

If you want to make the teacher's greeting card on your computer using a template, you can design the card yourself by adding your own selection of clip art or even creating your own images using a graphic design program.

    4

Write a poem or a paragraph for your teacher. Teachers -- especially those who teach English, grammar, literature and related subjects -- will appreciate seeing your writing skills on their card. Don't worry if it is not the most creative poem or if you do not use big, fancy words like ready-made greeting cards. You should make sure to correct basic grammar mistakes and spelling mistakes, however.

    5

Relate the teacher's card to the subject he teaches. Try to relate the greeting card theme, wording or design to the subject (or subjects) your instructor teaches you. For example, if the recipient is a math teacher, you can decorate the edges of the card with numbers and plus and minus signs. If your teacher teaches graphic design, you can show your appreciation by creating the card in the graphic design program that you learned. If a he teaches you spelling or vocabulary, try adding a few of the words you learned to the wording in the greeting card.

    6

Involve all students if the thank-you card is from the whole class. Make sure that everyone contributes to the card and that it is not just the work of one student. For example, one student can make a picture for the front of the card, another student can make a picture for the inside of the card, another student can write "Thank you" in fancy lettering and another can write a poem. Although this would take effort to coordinate, the teacher would appreciate it a lot. If it is not possible to have all students involved, at least send the card around the room for all students to sign.
