How to Lose Weight for Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia is a condition that affects men and is characterized by an overabundance of fatty tissue in the chest area that leads to the appearance of breasts. The condition is related to an overabundance of estrogen. Many men choose to undergo gynecomastia surgery as their only option to correct the affliction. The surgery involves removal of the excess fatty tissue to lessen the appearance of enlarged breasts and tightening the surrounding skin area, if necessary. If weight is the cause of the condition, it may be necessary to lose weight before the gynecomastia surgery to obtain optimal results.

    Eat a diet low in fats to lose weight. Do not eat any processed foods such as chips, hot dogs, cookies and cakes. Excess weight will contribute to the fatty tissue deposits associated with gynocomastia. Stay away from all fatty cuts of meat, or remove fat from existing meat. Chill all soups and scrape fat that forms on the top.

    Consume foods that are associated with increasing testosterone, such as cabbage, broccoli, mustard greens, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, turnip greens and radishes. These low-calorie vegetables will contribute to weight loss. In addition, an increase in testosterone may help to counteract the effects of the excess estrogen.

    Perform a combination of aerobic and weightlifting exercises at least 5 days per week for sessions of 45 minutes or more to greatly increase weight loss. Have a doctor or personal trainer determine at what level you need to work aerobically to burn fat, and exercise at or above that level for at least 30 minutes daily.

    Eat a diet high in protein, including lean meats such as fish, chicken, turkey and lean steak. In addition eat egg whites and drink low-fat milk. This will help you preserve muscle but lose weight at the same time.

    Eliminate carbohydrates to less than 25 grams per day, if possible. Excess carbohydrates are converted to fat and will not encourage weight loss. Do not consume bread or pasta products. In addition, stay away from potatoes and sugary foods.

    Drink water to avoid dehydration. When your body becomes dehydrated, it often confuses the signals with hunger. To lose weight, drink at least 64 oz. of water daily.
