How to Lose Weight by Roller Skating

Many dietitians argue that roller skating is a form of aerobic exercise. The Roller Skating Association International says skating exercises a variety of muscles, including the heart muscle. They even say it uses some of the same leg muscles a jogger would use and that it also helps reduce body fat. According to Streetlife Skates, roller skating is an easy way to burn off calories and lose weight, but first you must have a game plan in place.

    Start skating at a slow speed for five minutes to warm up your body. Skate for 20 minutes at a faster speed so your heart rate increases. Slow down and skate for five minutes at an easy pace so your body can cool down. Repeat this routine the next day.

    Warm up your body by skating at a slow pace for five minutes on the third day of your routine. Pick up the pace so you're skating at a moderate pace. Do this for 30 minutes. Slow down and skate for five minutes to cool down. Repeat this routine the following day.

    Loosen up your muscles by skating at a slow pace for five minutes on the fifth day of your routine as a way to warm up your body. Increase skating speed to a moderate pace, and skate for 40 minutes. Cool your body down by skating at a slower pace for five minutes. Repeat this routine the following day.
