How to Detoxify a Fatty Liver

How to Detoxify a Fatty Liver

Your liver is a complex organ that has various, important functions. These functions include storing energy and vitamins, iron, and minerals, creating proteins, producing bile needed for food digestion and metabolizing or ejecting medications, pollutants and alcohol from the body. Fatty liver is a buildup of fat in the liver cells which can cause inflammation of the liver. This inflammation can lead to scarring and hardening of this valuable organ. It is imperative to detoxify and treat your fatty liver by making changes to your eating habits.

Instructions

    1

Change your nutrition and eating habits to begin to detoxify your fatty liver. Fatty liver is associated with diabetes mellitus, high blood triglycerides, and the heavy use of alcohol. Stop drinking alcohol and start watching your food intake. Avoid consumption of certain foods and food products that are processed and high in fats.

    2

Use a food diary to keep track of your calories and what you eat. Too few calories drastically slows down your metabolism while too many calories will prevent you from losing weight. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Reduce your daily caloric intake by 300 to 500 calories to begin to lose weight safely.

    3

Remove butter, whole milk, carbonated drinks, fat-rich, high-cholesterol foods, white bread, white rice, concentrated sugars, high-glycemic food, processed products and all fried and fast food. Add high-quality protein rich foods, low-saturated fat foods, whole grain breads, beans and plenty of fruits and vegetables to your diet.
