How to Cure Baggy Eyes

Baggy eyes are caused by anything from sleep deprivation, allergies and poor diet, to hormonal fluctuations and heredity, just to name a few. If you want to get rid of your baggy eyes, treat the cause, not the eye. In the end, you'll look and feel younger and well-rested.

    Address any sleep problems. If you suspect baggy eyes are caused by sleep deprivation, cure them with better sleep. Get at least 8 full hours of uninterrupted sleep every night. Eliminate caffeine from your diet, or drink it only very early in the morning. Include at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day to help you rest better. Dim your lights at least an hour before bedtime. This triggers your brain to release melatonin, which helps you sleep.

    Eliminate allergens from your environment. If your eyes are also red and itchy, the problem is likely allergies. Avoid using feather pillows and comforters. Keep pets out of your bedroom. Use mild soaps and skin creams on your skin to avoid further irritation. See a doctor if the symptoms are severe.

    Improve your diet. Eat well-balanced meals composed mostly of whole foods. Avoid processed or pre-packaged foods as much as possible. Reduce alcohol consumption and sodium intake. Both of these contribute to swelling and puffiness.

    Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Dehydration causes baggy eyes.

    Use cosmetics. If heredity is the cause of your baggy eyes, you can't treat the cause. Instead, minimize their appearance. Press cold, sliced cucumbers against your eyes when you wake up to reduce any swelling. Apply concealer underneath your eyes that is at least one shade lighter than your foundation. Use eye creams that contain retinol or vitamin K, as both help cure baggy eyes.
