Difference Between P90X & Insanity Workout

The fitness workout programs P90X by Tony Horton and Intensity by Shaun Thompson (Shaun T) allow users to exercise in the comfort of their home. The differences between the two programs include length, techniques, exercises and diet plans. Both of the programs are highly intense.

Length

    P90X is a 90-day program, and Insanity is a 60-day program. In order for each program to be effective, the user must stick to the workout plan provided. Each program also recommends that its users follow a specific diet plan.

Techniques

    "Muscle confusion" is the term that P90X founder Horton uses to describe his program. Horton believes that his program's technique confuses muscles, leading to challenging the body to work harder.

    Shaun T refers to his program as "MAX Interval Training." It replaces a usually long, moderately intense workout with a shorter workout that features maximum intensity and shorter rest periods. In turn, the body works harder and rests for a shorter period of time compared to some other workout programs.

Exercises

    The P90X program includes 12 workout routines and a three-phase nutritional plan that is recommended for the ultimate body-changing experience. It also includes a fitness guide that offers tips on completing the program successfully.

    Intensity includes 10 workout routines, a nutrition plan and a calendar for the user to keep track of his health program.

    Both programs consist of six-day-per-week workouts with one day off per week.

Fitness Equipment

    The P90X workout requires a few pieces of fitness equipment for most of its exercises. A pull-up bar, dumbbells and resistance bands are necessary for Horton's program.

    The Intensity program, however, does not require fitness equipment.

Diet Plans

    The P90X diet plan consists of three phases, including fat shredder, energy booster and endurance maximizer. Decreasing the consumption of carbohydrates during phase one is considered the most difficult part of the diet plan.

    The Insanity diet plan's main focus is to eat five meals per day with the same amount of calories. The plan focuses on eating a low-starch and low-glycemic (low-sugar) diet.

    Both programs recommend eating frequent small meals and drinking more water than usual.
