Millions of people are trying to lose weight and are eager to try many methods. These may include unhealthy diets, calorie restrictions, over exercising or in some cases drastic surgery. The only tried and true way to lose weight is through healthy eating and exercise. Although this sounds easy, it's not. Many have attempted to begin eating healthier and exercising but soon result back to their old habits due to lack of will power and motivation. Becoming healthier should be fun and exciting, not dull and stressful.

    Consult with your doctor before beginning a fitness regimen. Your doctor will take you through a series of tests to evaluate your heart and the range of motion and strength in your muscles and joints. Once you're given a clean bill of health and advice from your doctor, you can begin setting your weight loss goals.

    Kick start your weight loss plan into action immediately by creating a fitness routine. This routine must include cardio and weight training to strengthen your heart and all of your other muscles. Strong muscles improve your energy, metabolism and endurance. You shouldn't push yourself to your limits too quickly but gradually increase the time that you work out.

    Develop a healthy eating plan which is satisfying enough to maintain even after you've reached your goal weight. Don't restrict certain foods, but instead, control your intake by counting calories. If you aren't sure about how many calories you should be consuming, use a calorie consumption calculator.

    Start thinking about what your goals are in weight loss. A reasonable goal is to lose one to two pounds per week. If you lose weight too quickly, it could be harmful to your health. Goals can be a great motivation in weight loss, especially when they are realistic and safe.

    Play by the rules that you have set yourself for weight loss. It is no easy ride and that is why most people give up. You need to be determined to lose the weight and to keep it off. The results are so worth the effort, not only are you losing weight but you are improving your health at the same time.
