How to Repair Receding Gums

How to Repair Receding Gums

Dental health is very important, although most people don't like to think or talk about it. If you don't take good care of your teeth, gum recession could become a problem. If your gums recede too much, it can cause a lot of tooth decay and you'll be seeing a lot more of your dentist or periodontist than you'd care to. Follow these steps to repair your receding gums and prevent additional damage.

Instructions

    1

Take steps to prevent gum disease. Prevention is the best way to avoid major repair to your gums. Floss twice a day and brush your teeth and gums every day with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

    2

Go see your dentist to talk about your gum recession concerns. He may be able to help you himself or he may refer you to a periodontist.

    3

Make a consultation appointment with a periodontist if the problem is too much for your dentist.

    4

Discuss various procedures. He may fill in the exposed areas around your gums with a filling material. He may also use a newer technique and use a drill to make the smooth tooth area rough and apply an adhesive. He will then cure it with a high intensity blue light and cover it with filling material. Discuss any concerns you have about either procedure at your consultation appointment.

    5

Figure out what made the gums recede in the first place to take steps toward prevention of more gum recession.

    6

Continue gum recession prevention by flossing and brushing thoroughly every day and keeping regular appointments with your dentist and periodontist.
