How to Lose Weight by Doing Sit Ups

If you're looking to lose weight and sculpt your physique, it is important to work out all areas of your body. This includes your abdominal region, or your core. When you perform a sit-up, you are burning calories, which in turn sheds fat and eventually can lead to weight lose. Performing sit-ups can also help produce desirable abs.

    Lie down on a workout mat. Although you can use your carpet or hardwood floor, the workout mat is going to provide padded support for your back.

    Position your feet flat on the floor and keep your knees slightly bent. Stretch your arms behind your head and grasp a light dumbbell. Lift your upper body off the ground using only your ab muscles. You're going to feel a tight crunch in your abs. Hold this for a moment and lower yourself down. This is one rep of the 15 you need to perform.

    Keep your back on the floor but lift your legs and point them straight upward. Your feet should be flat, as if you are going to walk on the ceiling. Using your lower abdominal muscles, lift your butt off the floor. Hold this for a moment, then lower it down. Perform 10 reps of this exercise.

    Lie on your back with your feet flat on the floor and your knees bent. Hug a dumbbell flat against your chest with both hands. Using your oblique muscles, rotate your upper body to one side. Hold this for a moment, then rotate to the other side. Perform nine reps total.
