How to Cure Food Sensitivities

Contrary to what many people think, food sensitivities are not the same thing as food allergies. Food sensitivities are when you have problems digesting a particular food or a particular group of foods. For example, some people have trouble digesting wheat, this is a food sensitivity as opposed to a food allergy. Some symptoms of food sensitivities include lethargy, fatigue, wanting to take a nap after eating, restlessness, depression, headaches, migraines, and pain, gas, or bloating. Some symptoms of food allergies can be hives, a rash, difficulty breathing, and swelling just to name a few.

Instructions

    1

Identify which foods you have a sensitivity to. This may take time and possibly a trip to the doctor's office. What you can do in the meantime is keep a food journal of what you are eating and note your body's reactions to it.

    2

Take anti-inflammatory foods or food supplements. If you notice after ingesting a particular food or food group that you have edema, pain or even arthritis symptoms then you may be dealing with inflammation due to a food sensitivity. One way to counteract this is to ingest things like cabbage, aloe vera, bromelain (extracted from pineapples) and even tumeric to counteract take care of the inflammation and help your body digest these foods.

    3

Avoid substances that are known to negatively affect digestion. Some examples are alcohol, drugs, chemicals, caffeine, food additives and colorants, stimulants, sugar and even artificial sweeteners. Avoiding these things will help your digestive system work properly. If your digestive system is working properly then there is less chance of your developing food sensitivities.

    4

Take the digestive enzyme supplement lipase if you have problems digesting fat. For example, let's say you have a food sensitivity or do not digest eggs well, but you have no problem digesting proteins, this means you probably have a food sensitivity to fats. Taking lipase can resolve the problem and make it possible for your digestive system to process fats.

    5

Take the digestive enzyme supplement pepsin or trypsin if you have trouble digesting proteins. As with the eggs, let's say you have trouble digesting beef or chicken, or any type of protein for that matter. Adding one of the digestive enzyme supplements mentioned above to your diet could help to correct the problem.

    6

If you have trouble digesting both fat and protein then supplement your diet with herbal bitters such as Swedish Bitters and L-carnitine.

    7

Take digestive enzyme supplements containing amylase if you have trouble digesting carbohydrates. Carbohydrates give some people gas and bloating, if you are one of those people this may indicate a food sensitivity to carbohydrates.

    8

Add herbal teas, such as licorice, ginger and mint, to your diet. Consider drinking a cup of one of these teas after each meal to help your digestive system.
