Chicago Spring Break Activities for Children

Chicago Spring Break Activities for Children

The city of Chicago has a diverse range of activities for all ages. If you're there with children on spring break, you can make a trip to a children's museum, theater or the zoo. Though Chicago in March or April may not have spring's usual warm temperatures, there are plenty of indoor activities to choose from if the weather is still cold.

Chicago Children's Theatre

If your children are interested in the theater, consider taking them to a play that includes kids their own age. The theater features year-round performances that are all family-friendly. Past performances have included "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "The Red Kite Project."

Chicago Children's Museum

Chicago Children's Museum includes exhibits about wildlife, science and dinosaurs. Besides permanent exhibits such as "BIG Backyard," "Dinosaur Expedition" and "Treehouse Trails," the museum hosts weekly workshops. On Wednesdays at "Kids Create," school-age kids can play with paper, clay, wire, paint and other materials.

Lincoln Park Zoo

As long as temperatures aren't too low during your trip, visit the Lincoln Park Zoo. The zoo has hundreds of animals to learn about, including reptiles and amphibians, mammals and birds. The zoo also features special animal houses, including a sea lion pool, lion house, primate house and a farm-in-the-zoo area. If you are visiting in April, check out the zoo's Edible Garden, where kids can learn about how food grows.
