Cake Ideas With Chocolate Drizzle

Cake Ideas With Chocolate Drizzle

Chocolate cake can be made in a multitude of forms. A chocolate buttercream frosting can top a buttery yellow cake or the cake itself can contain an abundance of cocoa. For those who prefer chocolate as a garnish rather than a main component, however, a simple chocolate drizzle adds a hint of sweetness to otherwise basic desserts. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Bundt Cakes

Bundt cakes are especially suited to being decorated with chocolate drizzle, as their ringed shape allows the chocolate to be applied to most of the cake, rather than just the top. Most bundt cake designs include ridges, down which a glaze or drizzle can freely flow. In addition, many recipes for bundt cakes contain less sugar than other cakes, making a chocolate drizzle the perfect accompaniment.

Create a Design

When most people think of a chocolate drizzle, they envision lines of chocolate spread haphazardly over a dessert. You can use a chocolate drizzle, however, to create simple or intricate designs on any kind of cake. Swirls, hearts, and small flowers are beautiful and easy to create.

Make the drizzle according to the recipe you're using. Fill a plastic bag with chocolate and snip a small piece of one corner or use a pastry bag with a small tip. Practice creating your designs on a piece of wax paper, keeping your pressure steady to avoid gaps in the chocolate design. When you're ready, drizzle your designs on top of the cake.

Fruit Cakes

A chocolate drizzle can be used to enhance the flavors of cakes with fruit fillings or garnishes. For instance, chocolate can add a hint of richness to a yellow or white cake with a strawberry cream filling. Certain fruits go better with chocolate than others, however. Strawberry, cherry and orange flavors are classic accompaniments to chocolate while raspberries, bananas, or even apricots work well also.

Mix It Up

Chocolate drizzle doesn't have to be plain milk chocolate. Try using a dark chocolate drizzle to add depth of flavor or white chocolate drizzle to create contrast against a chocolate cake. To keep the drizzle a true chocolate flavor, combine white chocolate and milk or dark chocolate drizzles to create an elegant and balanced design.

You can also add other flavors to chocolate drizzle. Peanut butter works especially well with chocolate, as does caramel. You can mix the flavors together before you drizzle them or fill separate bags with each flavor. Drizzle the chocolate first and add the peanut butter or caramel in a complementary design.
