Research has shown that those who eat breakfast are healthier and slimmer than those who skip it. A balanced breakfast should include whole grain cereal, fruit, eggs or some sort of protein.
Whole Grain Cereal
Whole grain cereal is a good option, as it is high in fiber and will keep blood sugar levels in balance for most of the morning. Look for brands with no added sugar, or make your own from oats, brown rice or barley. Add milk or unsweetened yogurt.
Fruit
Fruit is an important addition to any breakfast, as it contains essential vitamins and phytonutrients. These have been found to help combat diseases, such as cancer. Apples, pears, strawberries and blueberries are all good fruit options.
Protein
Eggs in the form of omelets, scrambled or poached, are all great for breakfast. Avoid frying as this adds unnecessary fat. Eat with a slice of wholegrain bread or toast, with a small amount of butter, or low-fat spread, if you prefer.
