Blood Sugar & Weight Loss

Humans need to eat. Eating is as necessary a function as breathing. The problems for people dealing with stubborn weight loss is when they eat a diet high in carbohydrates, or sugary foods, and their blood sugar exceeds normal ranges. Blood sugar plays such a vital role in weight gain, or weight loss, that it has warranted further research by the nutritional and scientific community.

Blood sugar & weight loss- How blood sugar goes up

When we eat, sugars, and simple (small-molecule) carbohydrates, are processed by digestion into glucose, the body's own high-octane fuel. Anybody whose diet includes high amounts of sugar and/or carbohydrates like white bread, potatoes, or white rice experiences this spike in blood sugar levels as lethargy. Starchy or sugary meals are the biggest contributor to high blood sugar levels and this feeling of fatigue. This fatigue can be so overpowering that fitness experts recommend weightlifters wait two to three hours after eating to begin their weight-lifting sessions.

When the blood sugar levels increase in a body, the brain is signaled to initiate the production of insulin to regulate levels of blood sugar. This increased insulin production effectively controls the blood sugar so well that blood sugar levels can drop to a point lower than they were before the meal. People with conditions like diabetes need to watch their blood sugar levels or risk going into diabetic shock. The rest of us seem concerned with getting, or staying, fat.

Blood sugar and weight loss- How we get fat from sugar

When the body's blood sugar level is too high for the energy required to function, the excess sugars are stored in the form of body fat. This fat is stored in such a manner so to require extra blood vessels. This strains the heart, which in turn will require more energy to maintain.

People working to lose excess fat are faced with the dilemma of either adjusting their intake of food, increasing their energy output to burn the fat, or both. Hence the birth of the fitness industry and all of its corresponding marketing campaigns. The simplest way to control these blood sugar levels is to make it a point to eat the right kinds of food.

Rather than consuming foods like white rice, white bread and potatoes, try replacing them with brown rice, whole grain or oat breads. Replace foods like potatoes with mashed cauliflower. If anything on a plate gets an extra helping, make it the vegetables with high water content and low starches. Most weight gain/loss issues stem from how a person eats. So that's the first step in getting control of blood sugar levels.

Mankind has a love affair with high carb foods

Small globule molecule carbohydrate foods tend to comprise the majority of mankind's favorite 'comfort foods.' Regardless of American nutritional culture, anyone who relies upon food will find a rough go of eliminating them from the diet.

Sugar rich foods are some of the hardest habits to break.

This is why so many sweet goods and bakery items are presented at the grocery store directly at the entrance or the exit. Either method is a grocery store's way of hoping you will shop while you're hungry.

Weight loss challenges are a repetitive battle

Food, unlike any other dependency, is truly a dependency, meaning it's necessary. Unlike all other control issues which can be abandoned, food is a renewable issue to deal with. We actually need to eat. That's why blood sugar's effect on weight loss is one of the most important topics to people everywhere. We all eat.
