How to Help Children With ADHD in the Classroom

Children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), are easily frustrated in the classroom and that can lay a negative foundation for learning later in life.
It is important that teachers, parents and school administrators work together to identify long-term solutions for the obstacles students with ADHD face in the classroom.

Instructions

ADHD Classroom Assistance

    1

Students showing signs of ADHD should be referred to a specialist for testing. This is the first step in helping students with learning disabilities get the assistance they need for academic success.

    2

Work with specialists to develop an individualized education plan.

    3

Students with ADHD should take advantage of peer tutoring, or collaborative learning. Some students have proven to respond positively when working with their peers.

    4

Assign shorter, less involved schoolwork for students with ADHD. This is usually only necessary for extreme cases or very young students, but it's helpful for students who are at the beginning of their journey in handling their ADHD.

    5

Send students with ADHD to a secluded area for testing. This will allow the students to read aloud from the test, a practice that is very helpful for people with ADHD. In addition, allow students more time to complete their tests for optimal performance.
