If a special boy or girl has requested a truck- or SUV-themed cake, you might be able to locate a suitable novelty cake pan by searching through baking supply shops or Internet websites, but you really don't need to go through all that trouble or expense. Instead, you can create three dimensional Hummers and box trucks in delicious cake form by using standard baking pans. Once you create the shape of your cake, you can use the recipient's favorite candies to add decorations. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
Hummer Cake
- 1
Prepare two boxes of cake mix according to the directions on the box. Divide the batter between a greased 11-by-15-inch pan and a greased 8-by-8-inch pan and bake as indicated on the cake mix box.
2Invert the baking pans onto cake boards or large serving platters to remove the cakes from the baking pans when they are cool.
3Trim the 11-by-15-inch cake with a serrated knife until it measures 8 inches by 15 inches.
4Place the 8-inch-by-15-inch cake onto the center of a large cake board and ice the top and sides of the cake.
5Place the 8-inch-square cake on top of the larger cake. Line up the edge of the smaller cake with one of the 8-inch sides of the larger cake to create the shape of a Hummer.
6Cover the top and sides of the stacked cakes with icing to make them look like one solid cake.
7Press miniature chocolate-covered doughnuts onto the sides of the cake to represent the Hummer's wheels and add rectangular cookies or pieces of fruit leather cut into the proper shape to serve as a windshield and windows on your cake.
Box Truck Cake
- 8
Purchase or bake two loaf cakes of the same size.
9Place one loaf cake onto a cake board or serving platter. This forms the trailer of your box truck cake.
10Ice the top and sides of the box truck's trailer.
11Cut the second loaf cake in half vertically and set aside one of the halves for another use.
12Cut the remaining piece of cake in half horizontally and place one of the halves on the cake board in front of the trailer.
13Trim the second half of cake to make it approximately 1/3 shorter than the other half. Stack this piece on top of the other half to create the cab of your box truck cake.
14Spread icing between the two pieces of the cab to hold them together and then cover the top and sides of the cab with additional icing.
15Press round chocolate cookies or miniature doughnuts onto the sides of the cake to represent wheels and add windows to the cab with icing or fruit leather.
