Education for children requires financial means, sometimes exceeding feasibility for a school district. Major corporations and businesses offer financial support for various programs serving youth today.
AT & T Foundation
AT&T decided to focus grant money on keeping children in school. AT&T Aspire is a $100 million project recognizing the epidemic of high school dropouts and its impact on the job market. Grant money is provided to at-risk school districts for help keeping children in school. Job shadowing allows at-risk students a hands-on approach in today's workforce, providing both knowledge and skill set. AT&T Aspire will conduct future research projects on high school dropout rates and work to provide training to school districts to alleviate the issue.
Coca-Cola Company
The Coca-Cola Company supports children by providing scholarships to graduating seniors planning on furthering their education. The Coca-Cola Scholars program began in 1986 and has provided $38 million to grants for higher education. The program recognizes students attending 2- and 4-year schools. Coca-Cola established funding for students who are first-generation college attendees, as well. More than 400 college campuses educate Coca-Cola scholarship recipients.
Fund For Teachers
Partnered with Jones New York in the Classroom, Fund for Teachers provides funding opportunities for K-12 educators. Fund for Teachers believes in-field experiences enrich a teacher's potential to provide quality education to children. Qualified teachers who apply can receive up to $5,000 to enhance skills and broaden curriculum in a chosen field.
General Mills
Champions for Healthy Kids was developed in 2002 to provide at-risk youth education and resources for healthy living. Mentors provide activities and education geared toward diet and exercise to promote a balanced lifestyle. More than $500,000 is awarded to centers and after-school programs each year to enhance children's physical well-being.
