Weight loss programs often fail because sometimes drastic lifestyle changes are too difficult and limiting. Incorporating activities you enjoy into your weight-loss program can help you stick to a regime. Dancing is excellent exercise for losing weight, as it incorporates aerobic activity, cardiovascular exercise and flexibility. Also, dancing can be so enjoyable that you forget you're burning calories.

    Consider your weight-loss goals, and pick a type of dance that fits your goals and appeals to you. Hip-hop, jazz and samba are high energy types of dance that burn a lot of calories quickly, whereas ballroom and ballet are more likely to provide gentle aerobic activity. Ballet also helps build flexibility and muscle tone.

    Look for dance classes at your local gym or community center. Many gyms have begun offering dance classes to supplement their usual exercise programs because of the popularity of dance as an aerobic workout. Commit to at least one class per week to see progress in your weight loss goals.

    Rent DVDs and look up online videos on dance for weight loss. There are a number of aerobic DVDs that focus on dance as an exercise. Commit to 20 minutes of dancing at home -- at least three times a week -- to lose weight with a dance regimen.

    Try out different types of dance to find one you like best. Challenge your comfort zone by signing up for a type of dance you've never done before. It might be a new discovery that you enjoy -- and pushes you along your path to lose weight.
