Being an overweight teenager can impact your self-confidence and limit activity. However, there are ways to quickly shed excess pounds and achieve your ideal body image. Some teens resort to unhealthy eating habits such as crash diets to lose weight. Yet, these diets don't work, and weight loss is usually temporary. Making simple lifestyle changes can help you lose weight--and keep the weight off.
Instructions
- 1
Be active. A sedentary life contributes to excess pounds. Get active to lose weight. Join a sports team at school, start an exercise routine, walk around the mall, ride your bike or jog around the neighborhood.
2Limit fast foods. Fast foods are quick and convenient. Unfortunately, these food are also fattening and have a high caloric intake. Eliminate fast foods from your diet, or if you do eat at a fast food restaurant, choose from among the healthier, lower-calorie alternatives on the menu, such as chicken or salads.
3Stay away from sugar. To lose weight fast as a teenager, pay attention to food labels and reduce your intake of sugary treats such as cookies, ice cream, sodas and candy.
4Drink water. Water acts as a diuretic to flush excess fluids from your body. Drink between eight and ten glasses of water a day to reduce fluid retention and lose water weight.
5Choose healthy, unprocessed foods. Processed or frozen foods are convenient for teenagers and children. Unfortunately, they are high in sodium, which contributes to water weight and excessive pounds.
6Reduce your calorie intake. Some teenagers have a high metabolism, so they can eat a higher calorie diet and maintain their body weight. If you are trying to lose weight, reduce your calorie intake by 500 calories a day. You'll eat 3,500 fewer calories a week, and lose between one and two pounds a week.
